February 2004 - A PROMETRA International team visited Atlanta, Georgia, for a series of
lectures, workshops and meetings discussing African traditional medicine
and indigenous science. The PROMETRA team was composed of Dr. Erick
Gbodossou, PROMETRA International President; Samba Ngom, Traditional
Healer of Malango Association; and Charles Katty, Coordinator of Patient
Research of the Center for Experimental Traditional Medicine in Fatick,
Senegal.
The team made formal presentations at the Morehouse School of Medicine
and Spelman College on the topics of African traditional medicine. The team was invited to
lay a wreath at the tomb of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. at the
ML King
Center for Social Change . A Sunday presentation was made to the congregation
of Hillside Chapel and Truth Center, where Dr. Erick Gbodossou was introduced by
Ambassador Andrew Young. (the videotape of Dr. Gbodossou’s

The City of Atlanta presented a formal proclamation to PROMETRA
International declaring, February 19, 2004 as the official PROMETRA
International Day in Atlanta. A meeting with the City of Atlanta Sister
City Commission was held to discuss plans for upcoming study tour to the
Republic of
Benin, Way of Remembering. The
City of Atlanta and the City of Cotonou are official sister cities, and
the City of Atlanta will be sending an official delegation to
participate in PROMETRA International’s annual study tour. The
delegation will meet with Mayor Nicéphore
Dieudonné Soglo in Cotonou in
March.
Following the presentation, “African Traditional Medicine: A Science
Out of the Shadows” to the Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Gbodossou
was presented with an adjunct faculty appointment to the medical
school. PROMETRA International and Morehouse School of Medicine have a
formal memorandum of agreement to conduct joint research and
student/faculty exchanges
(Medecine Verte). An interactive seminar, “Woman in African
Thought” was presented to Spelman College Independent Scholars (SIS)
Program.
The
launch of PROMETRA”s most recent publication,
The
African Concept from God to Man: An Introduction to African
Spiritualism occurred . This book describes an African view
of spirituality and the scientific system of FA divination. Books are
available for purchase.
