2004 - Dr.
Virginia Floyd and the PROMETRA International network was honored
for its work in improving the health and well being of the nation of
Burkina Faso and Africa during the Fête Nationale.
This medal of honor is
presented to citizens of Burkina Faso and others who have worked to
advance the country and its citizens. Dr. Mahamadou Compaore, Director
General of Pharmacy, Medications and Laboratories of the Ministry of
Health and member of PROMETRA Burkina Faso’s scientific committee was
also honored with this presidential award.
PROMETRA International met
with local PROMETRA staff, the national REJOMETRA (network of
journalists and media) chapter and the national association of
traditional healers during this visit. Drs. Virginia Floyd and Erick
Gbodossou held meetings with Madame Fatoumata Diendere, President of
the National Assembly of Burkina Faso and Ambassador J. Anthony Holmes,
United States Ambassador to Burkina Faso to discuss PROMETRA projects
and activities.
PROMETRA
Burkina Faso is one of the five countries selected by PROMETRA
International and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to
participate in the “Promoting the Use of Traditional Medicine in the
National Health Care Systems of Africa”. Activities are underway to
train traditional healers in the FAPEG curriculum, work with policy
leaders and partner organizations, and strengthen the links between
modern and traditional medicine throughout the nation.
