NEW RESEARCH ANNOUNCED

GLOBAL GATHERING OF PROMETRA INTERNATIONAL

 

June 2005 -  Participants from 21 nations gathered in Dakar, Senegal to attend the Annual Meeting of the Board of  Directors of PROMETRA.  The meeting was sponsored under the chairmanship of the Ministries of Scientific Research, Foreign Affairs, Industry and Craftmanship, and the First Lady of the Republic of Senegal, Madame Vivian Wade.

This meeting presented to the public a newly created document of best practices entitled, “Judicious Introduction of Traditional Medicine into National Health Care Systems of the Third World”.   This document is the result of two years of research conducted by PROMETRA International  with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and the Ford Foundation.  This document provides a road map and “how to” process for the significant involvement of traditional medicine in the nation’s official health care system.  A major component of this research document is the presentation of model legislation for the legalization of traditional medicine and the establishment of a National Council for Traditional Medicine.  Model legislation

The recommendations of this research will be disseminated throughout the continent of Africa with the assistance of project partners, World Health Organization/Africa Region (WHO-AFRO), NEPAD, UNESCO.  PROMETRA International trusts that this information will be used by nations throughout Africa to provide full access to quality traditional medicine to its citizens, and improve the health of our African continent.
