Hundreds of traditional healers from throughout Africa, USA, and
Europe participated in an advocacy march through downtown Nairobi,
Kenya, to highlight the need for African nations to legalize
traditional healers to become more involved in the fight against the
AIDS epidemic. This march took place during the 13th
International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases
in Africa (ICASA). A Declaration of Traditional Healers was
prepared during the Traditional Healers' Workshop, "Sharing
Knowledge, Experiences and Challenges in Providing Treatment and
Care to HIV/AIDS Patients," and presented to conference
officials. |
