The Mission of PROMETRA International is to promote and protect traditional medicine and indigenous science. This mission is accomplished through:

Since February 21, 2003, the Africa WHO decided to institute, every 31 August, the African  Traditional Medicine Day, following the adoption in the year 2000 of a resolution on “the Promotion of the Role of  Traditional Medicine in  Health System: Strategy of the African  Region“. Resolution that inscribe itself in the Plan of action of the Decade of Traditional Medicine (2001-2010).

 

PROMETRA International sized the opportunity by doing her best and getting ready and to make her representatives participate in this very important appointment for health in general and for Traditional Medicine in particular.


MISSION OF FOLLOW-UP OF THE SUPPORT PROGRAM TO THE NATIONAL PROGRAM OF GOOD GOVERNANCE / PROJECT 9 ACP Se  12 / EUROPEAN FUND OF DEVELOPMENT

 

PROMETRA International received in her premises, on Tuesday 12th August 2008, a composed delegation of the European union, of the unit of Management of the 9th FED Project, of the Direction of   Debt and investment, of the Platform of non state control Actors. All committed structures in the setting of the funds allocated by the 9th European Fund of development to organisms of the civil society.

 The visit of work is placed under the aegis of the National organiser Delegated of the FED and whose goal is to bring if need be, the necessary corrective to the conduct by PROMETRA International, of project titled: « Implication of the Tradipractitioners of Health in the counselling of Health Problems relative to the Survival of Mother and Child ». An opportunity offered to members of the delegation, to take account of enterprises activities to contribute to the strengthening of capacities of the tradipractitioners of Health by the    Healers’ self-proficiency training FAPEG METHOD clarification by PROMETRA International.

 Some fruitful exchanges made it possible to have a better control of the objectives aimed by the European union in the domain of good governance implying non state control actors better.

The waho INVITES TO A COLLABORATION BETWEEN TRADITIONAL AND MODERN MEDICINE PRACTITIONERS

 

The Dr Kofi BUSIA,  Professional, in charged of Traditional Medicine in the West African Organisation of Health coordinated in May 2008 in Ghana, the meeting of an exchange forum between practitioners of the traditional medicine and their colleagues of the conventional medicine.  Turnouts of such a meeting should incite ministries of health of States members of the CEDEAO, to consider audacious manner, of further reforms  for a judicious introduction  of  traditional medicine in their national health system.


PROMETRA INTERNATIONAL TO THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH OF SENEGAL

 

Monday 14 July 2008, Mrs. Safiatou THIAM, Minister of Health and Prevention of Senegal, received in her premises, a delegation of PROMETRA International under the leadership of his President, Dr Erick GBODOSSOU.

 

The meeting enabled the Minister to take note of the big projects of PROMETRA International in domains of the medical research, of the fight against the malnutrition and the organization of health tradipractitioners. Mrs. THIAM pled for a close collaboration between the medicines modern and traditional as aiming the same target, the patient in search of a very sanitary being. She invited all actors to mobilize themselves for a better organization of the exercise and practice of the traditional medicine and invited the ministerial cabinet to grant a full attention to the file relative to the enactment of the law which concerned this issue.

 

The appraisal of PROMETRA International will be solicited each time this is necessary. Mrs. the Minister expressed her quick interest for the well stocked efforts of medical research by actors in traditional medicine.

 


IMALAAH to the discovery of CEMETRA

 

The CEMETRA of Fatick to Senegal welcomed IMALAAH center whose members came to inquire about the work of Health tradipractitioners of MALANGO association. The delegation piloted by Mrs. Avelina MERKEL -Physiotherapist - and Daouda SAGNA -etiopathe – composed of strong thirty members. The visitors were received under the palaver tree for exchanges concerning the experiences of the some and others about African tradithérapie, etiopathy and magnetism. The CEMETRA and the IMALAAH center consider collaborating in the area of widening the alternative therapy range. The IMALAAH center delivers care by massages using plants based products, the Aloe vera, of essential oils.

XOY: ANNUAL CEREMONY OF DIVINATION IN SEEREER COUNTRY

 

 Located in the heart of Senegal, the seereer country shelters at the approach of every raining season, ceremonies of public divination or XOY during which the Saltigi - great master seer exercises himself. Seereer represent one of the majority ethnics in Senegal and preserve foundations of their traditional practices that hold on their collective memory again.

 Since 03 decades, PROMETRA International accompanies these wise men and spiritual seereer leader’s in the organization of such ceremonies of divination of which the one of 2008 held at the Experimental Traditional Medicine Center (CEMETRA) of Fatick. Was predicted with a beneficial raining season that is going to encourage good harvests.

 On the social plan, the political authorities are invited to consult to attenuate conflicts and other contentious susceptible that might disrupt the peaceful climate so dear to the populations. In favor of peace and social harmony, families were advised, should give    1kg of sugar, 7m of white cloth, a bowl of cooked porridge of millet as offerings.

 The XOY has the detail to continue divinatory incantation beyond. It prolongs itself in the propitiatory rituals of Wise men and the Saltigi that implore the negative aspects of their clairvoyance, by the slant of reclusions of prayers and offerings.


THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY CELEBRATED BY THE AFRICAN CULTURAL ALLIANCE

AND PROMETRA INTERNATIONAL

 

May 21, 2008, the International Day of Cultural Diversity has been celebrated in Senegal under the initiative of the alliance Cultural African (ACA) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, BREDA UNESCO and PROMETRA International. Mr. Mame Birame DIOUF, Minister of Culture, of the Classified Historic Heritage, of the National Languages and the Francophone, presided the official opening ceremony of  the Day and proposed to institute a Price that rewards actors working in efficient manner to the rehabilitation of knowledge and how to do traditional .

 

A symposium has been organized on the theme « African Women and Cultural Diversity ». Under the leadership of PROMETRA International, the great master seer Saltigi and the Ndëepkats priestesses ethno psychiatry of communal group, participated actively to the Day while holding a talk under the palaver tree –on the theme « African Woman Traditherapy, and Spirituality». During the discussion, the Saltigi and Ndëepkats answered favorably to the invitation of the Ministry of Culture for a collaboration that would encourage taking into account of endogenous knowledge in strategies of cultural development.


PROMETRA INTERNATIONAL TOWARD A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MINISTRY OF BIOmaSS, THE RENEWABLE ENERGIES AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

 

On Monday 19 May 2008, PROMETRA International was received in audience by Mr. Christian Sina DIATTA, Minister of the Bio carburant, the renewable Energies and the scientific Research, who has always been following with particular interest, works achieved by PROMETRA International. The meeting goal is to reinforce the partnership between the two structures, concerning development of knowledge and traditional ability, for the assessment of knowledge and how to do traditional in the optics to create some protected data banks on traditional knowledge.

 

PROMETRA International announced the state of her researches in progress that has the objectives to contribute in search of local solutions to problems of local health of the African populations confronted with epidemics and other pandemics. At the national level, the strategic Plan 2006/2010 of the Ministry conceive the setting up of a favorable environment for a quality research, adapted, coordinated and responding to the demand. For this to be, the ministry tackled the identification of levels and shapes of partner involvement in the great under construction understanding between African Center of researches and applications, Center of Researches and Testing,  the Scientific and Technological Park, the Planetarium.

 

But it is equally necessary to propose a consensual authorized setting based on a scientific and rigorous methodological approach. In a near future, the Minister intends to do a working visit in PROMETRA International to see better for himself the works of research done by a partner that, according to the Minister, reached a level of certain maturity in the setting of his plan of pan African action


PROMETRA INTERNATIONAL, PRIVILEGED PARTNER OF THE WEST AFRICAN   HEALTH ORGANIZATION (waho)

 

On March 31 to April 03, 2008 and on the 05 to May 08, 2008, PROMETRA International participle in the works of  WAHO having united the experts charged with the development of a global strategy for the development of  Traditional Medicine in  members  States of the ECOWAS ( Economic  Communities Of West African States). These meetings permitted to deepen works started since the last year following the nomination in 2007 of Dr Kofi BUSIA, Professional in charge of  traditional medicine. This coordinates in the name of the WAHO, meetings of experts of the ECOWAS space for the assessment of the development of Traditional Medicine in member States  and the clarification of an Advocacy Plan for  harmonized political and authorized setting.

 

Represented in 24 countries through the world of which 17 in Africa, PROMETRA International participates in these meetings as partner, to share her Pan-African experience in the safeguard and the rehabilitation of knowledge and how to do traditional. The forming of a partnership between WAHO and PROMETRA International is judged beneficial by the two parts in areas  :

·   to the funding of  better and convenient traditional medicine promotion,

·   to the backing of the advocacy in favor of the introduction of  Traditional Medicine in the national health systems of member countries,

·   to the extension of workshops for the trainings of health tradipractitioners as agents of IEC (Information Education Communication) with the suitable FAPEG educational method (Formation of Healer auto Perfection) clarification by PROMETRA International.

 

The support of the WAHO shall come in balance to the advocacy initiated since 03 decade and dedicated from 2003 to 2006, by the setting of the Project UNDP-New York / Cooperation South South under the conduct of PROMETRA International in French-speaking, English-speaking Africa, Portuguese-speaking Africa; for a judicious introduction of Traditional Medicine in the National Health systems of the Third World.

A NEW TEAM OF PROMETRA IN HAITI AND TO HOLY DOMINGUE
